Licensing Guide for MedTechs in UAE – What You Need to Know
The UAE offers very good career opportunities for professionals in a medical laboratory—but you must first obtain a license issued by the relevant health authority. Whether you are eyeing a position in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, or one of the other Emirates, the following guide takes you through the procedures.
Let us break down how you can get your UAE license as a Medical Technologist.
1. Choose the Right Health Authority
There are three main regulatory bodies:
- DOH (Department of Health – Abu Dhabi)
- DHA (Dubai Health Authority)
- MOH (Ministry of Health – for Northern Emirates like Sharjah, Ajman, etc.)
Choose based on where you want to work
2. Check Your Eligibility
General requirements are:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field
• Minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience (may vary for each authority)
• A valid passport with a current photograph
• Good Standing Certificate from previous employer/regulatory body
• Transcript of Records and License from Home Country
3. Create a DataFlow Report
All health authorities require Primary Source Verification (PSV) through DataFlow.
You’ll need to submit:
- Degree and transcript
- Experience certificates
- Home country license
- Passport & photo
Expect processing to take 3–6 weeks.
4. Take the Prometric Exam
Once DataFlow is complete:
- You’ll receive an eligibility letter
- You must pass the Prometric CBT exam
- Minimum passing score: around 60–65% depending on the authority
Prometric centers are available across UAE and globally.
5. Apply for License Activation
After passing:
- Submit remaining documents
- Pay licensing fees
- Get linked to a healthcare facility/employer (they activate your license)
